All That Glitters Page 9

  She was speechless. That was one outcome she didn’t see coming at all. But it made sense. Made sense in that crazy, ambitious sort of way, but it did. It was a big decision, something that twisted her stomach into knots, but why not? Why not take a chance at life?

  “It sounds like a great idea honestly, but why not launch a new business with someone more experienced? I haven’t had much experience with jewelry at all.”

  He drew closer, close enough where she smelled his cologne. It was the same scent as the first day she’d met him. “There’s nobody else I want to do this with,” he said. “I’ve never seen someone with a more natural eye than you have. Yours is even better than Lori’s and she’s been in the industry for years. I’m telling you, we can make this work, except it’ll be on our terms.”

  That did it. That was the ball knocked out of the park. She had to hand it to him, it was a great solution. Sure, there were a lot of details to work out, but she trusted he knew what he was doing.

  “So, you really want to go into business with me?” she asked.

  He smiled. “Of course. I want to share everything with you. Let’s do this.”

  She kissed him. She couldn’t help it. He just looked so perfect there with his loose tie and his clever smile. He wanted to share what was closest to him, and she loved that.

  “Let’s do this,” she repeated. “Let’s go for it.”

  He squeezed his arms around her. “Good. Now, let’s get out of here. We’ll grab lunch, and then I’m meeting with my lawyer to draw up the sale papers. I want to get moving on this as soon as possible. You can come if you want. I told my lawyer about my new girlfriend, so I’m sure he’d want to meet you.”

  Girlfriend, eh? I like the sound of that. “I’m happy to come along…partner.”

  She was thankful for the day she’d first started working at Tomlinson Jewelry. It was how they had met. Most employees only received a paycheck. She, on the other hand, had also found love.

  * * *

  Never mix work and play…

  Tiffany can barely afford bologna sandwich dinners. Even with her new nursing job, she’s struggling to pay off her student loans and pay rent at the same time. Feeling like she’s bitten off more than she can chew, she does what any broke, self-respecting woman living in New York City would do: become a model.

  Of course, it doesn’t involve catwalks and designer outfits. That would be the obvious choice. Instead, she’s dressing in strange clothes and standing perfectly still while being stared at by artsy painters. Tiffany isn’t the shyest person in the world, but having so many eyes on her makes her skin crawl. The only saving grace is the attractive man who puts all this together. Trent is part businessman and part artist—an intriguing combination that catches Tiffany’s interest.

  But when the hospital director catches wind of the side job, Tiffany has to make a choice, and she has no idea if Trent’s newfound attention will last if she’s no longer his work of art.
